IBM's Chip Unit Cuts Temp Workers

written by Mark LaPedus, courtesy of EE Times
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- There are more cutbacks at IBM Corp.'s Microelectronics Group.

This time, IBM has laid off about 100 contract workers at its fab in Essex Junction, Vt., according to the Burlington Free Press.

It's been a tough time for IBM and others amid an IC slump. After several denials, IBM earlier this year confirmed that it has experienced a layoff within its slumping chip unit. Then, IBM's Microelectronics Group took pay cuts.
